What Are Distance Learning Courses?
Any course that you can complete from your own home, which involves no classroom education qualifies as a distance learning course. Not every post-matric course is a distance learning course, but those that are, are practical, skills-driven, and aimed to help people improve their lives.
Are Distance Learning Courses Any Good?
Distance learning courses are an excellent way to further your studies. Distance learning courses give you the exact same qualification that you would get and achieve if you were to do one of these courses using contact learning. For example, offered by Bellview Institute of Distance Learning, our Adult Matric Programme, is done by using distance learning. This programme awards students the same Certificate that students who study via contact-learning get.
What Value Does Distance Learning Have?
Distance learning has increased tremendously in value over the last few years, for many reasons. It is quickly becoming a very cost-effective method of learning compared to other physical education institutions.
By using distance learning, students have the opportunity to become employed to meet their financial obligations whilst they use distance learning to further their education. You have immense freedom to manage both your professional and personal life by choosing distance learning.
Are Distance Learning Courses Recognised?
Yes, they are both accredited and recognised. Able to study your Adult Matric course with Bellview Institute of Distance Learning, you can then register with the Department of Basic Education. Keep in mind – The Amended Senior Certificate course offered by Bellview Institute of Distance Learning does not have to be specifically accredited. The reason for this is that you work through and study all of your course work via distance learning, and when you write your exams you register with the DBE to do so. After passing these exams, you will be awarded your Amended Senior Certificate.
What Are The Different Types Of Distance Learning?
There are six generally accepted types of distance learning, these types are:
- Asynchronous Distance Learning
- Online Distance Learning
- Paced Distance Learning
- Self-Paced Distance Learning
- Synchronous Distance Learning
- Blended Distance Learning
Asynchronous Distance Learning
This type of distance learning takes place when students study and learn on their own. This means they do not interact with study groups or classes. Asynchronous distance learning has clear deadlines for assignments and tasks to be submitted. Asynchronous distance learning uses tools such as email, audio lessons, written content, and pre-recorded video lessons, to educate students.
Online Distance Learning
Online distance learning is different in the way that there are no fixed dates on when to submit your tasks or assignments. The only requirement is that all of your assignments be submitted and completed before you complete the course. There is however a fixed duration of time to complete your course with the help of online support and tutors. In this format, education takes place via live lectures, online discussions, forums, and email.
Paced Distance Learning
Students who study via paced distance learning all are given the same time frame to complete their courses. Every student has the same due dates for assignments and assessments. In this context, the educational tools used are email correspondence, live lectures, and written content tools.
Self-Paced Distance Learning
Self-paced distance learning refers to distance learning where students can study at their own pace and in their own time. This means that each student will be able to complete their course in their own time, based on their ability, availability, and overall engagement with their studies.
Synchronous Distance Learning
When studying via synchronous distance learning both the student and their tutor interact with each other at the exact same time, although they are in different locations. Here the learning tools used are live lectures, group chats, and online discussion forums.
Blended Distance Learning
Bellview Institute of Distance Learning uses blended distance learning, using methods from all of the above-listed types of distance learning. Using the correspondence methods used in asynchronous learning we have perfected the art of email and written content.
All of our course information is made available through email, and you submit your assignments using email.
All of our subject material and coursework are expertly written to ensure you have the best possible distance learning experience. With technological advancements, we now use platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp to combine student support with student engagement.
Using these platforms you can register easily and make your application process that much easier.
Bellview Institute of Distance Learning offers a range of courses that have extremely flexible study times. Our courses are not fixed as we view self-paced distance learning to be the most beneficial way to study while you work.
For example, available to you, our Adult Matric Programme can be completed in any amount of time from 1 year to 3 years, which is all dependent on how fast you go through your coursework.
Another one of our prime examples of how we incorporate the different ways of distance learning, we take the online exam preparation as seen in synchronous distance learning. Our highly-skilled tutors interact with you, our students, via online tools.
These tools are available to you to provide you with the best possible exam preparation experience.

All of these online tools offer instant solutions to your problems. Studying via distance learning makes education more accessible and collaborative.
Is Distance Learning And Online Learning The Same Thing?
In essence, yes, distance learning is the same thing as online learning. Both of these use technological and online tools to provide you with education. The one major difference is that when you study via online learning there will still be a certain amount of physical classes you will need to attend.
Distance learning has no physical classes for you to attend. You are provided with all of your course materials at once and thus you set your pace of learning.
What Is The Difference Between Distance And Online Learning?
Used interchangeably, distance learning and online learning has three elements that set17:00 them apart:
When you study using distance learning, your education happens in different locations. Our course specialists compile your study guides and coursework, which includes your assignments, for you to work through and complete.
Online learning refers to where students “meet” their tutors on a digital platform, lessons are then presented and assignments handed out to complete for submission.
With distance learning, there are no in-person interactions taking place. This is because all of the needed instructions are set out in your study materials. Online learning relies heavily on interaction, especially on the varied digital platforms.
Teaching strategies are very different for distance and online learning. Whereas distance learning is fully a self-study strategy, online learning uses a wide range of different teaching strategies adopted from contact learning.
Why Choose Distance Learning?
Choosing to study via distance learning through Bellview Institute of Distance Learning, has many advantages such as:
- It saves you money
- You can study from your own home
- You set your own study pace

With most tertiary institutions being quite expensive, people who want to further their education are unable to do so, because of the high price of tuition. Thus there are many missed opportunities that individuals go through due to their financial state.
As a cost-effective learning method, distance learning offers tertiary education to everyone and aims to be accessible to anyone. With distance learning, you will not have any face-to-face lectures or classroom education. Seeing that these two factors are some of the reasons why contact learning is so expensive, distance learning is offered to you at a fraction of the cost.
Studying From Your Home
Distance learning offers you the advantage of being able to study directly from the comfort of your own home. This is a major benefit to you as you can study in an environment with which you feel most comfortable.
Studying from home means that you can create a dedicated study space in your home seeing as you have all of your study materials at home, you can learn better.

Distance learning requires you to be extremely disciplined and dedicated to your studies. This means that you need to set a realistic pace for yourself when it comes to studying. Creating and following a study schedule ensures that you can complete sections of your coursework, in a more manageable time.
Working Full Time While Studying
Another great benefit of distance learning is the fact that you can easily pursue a full-time career while you study a course or qualification at the same time. Being able to earn an income while improving your skills and knowledge can help you further both your career and life.
