What Is A NATED Diploma?
A NATED Diploma is a diploma you can pursue after completing your Matric certificate. It is an accredited qualification and is recognised on the NQF Levels as level 6. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) established NATED diplomas to prepare students for employment and to help them become contributing members of society.
How Does A NATED Diploma Work?
A NATED diploma will be structured as follows:
- NATED N4 Certificate – Theoretical
- NATED N5 Certificate – Theoretical
- NATED N6 Certificate – Theoretical
- NATED N6 Diploma – Practical
The NATED courses must be completed in this order. Each of the theoretical courses will contain four (4) subjects. To pass each of the subjects, you will need to pass two (2) assignments, one (1) internal examination and one (1) external examination.
After all of your theoretical courses are passed, you must complete your final course, which is a practical course. This must be done at a company relevant to your field of study for a period of 18 months.
During this time, you must complete a logbook containing various tasks that must be signed off with a signature and date by a supervisor or manager. After completing your logbook, and it is approved by the DHET, you will receive your NATED Diploma in whichever field you studied.

You will qualify for any of the first courses in our NATED diploma programmes, which is the N4 NATED Certificate, with a Matric certificate. This can be a National Senior Certificate (NSC) you receive in high school or an Amended Senior Certificate (SC) you receive at a college after the age of 21.
