A Matric Equivalent Certificate is on the same NQF level as a matric certificate. That being an NQF level 4. Although both carry the same NQF level, they follow different methods of learning.

A traditional matric certificate provides students with a broad knowledge of different subjects and the method of learning that goes with it prepares students for a variety of tertiary education courses.

A matric equivalent certificate gives students a more specialised set of skills and knowledge in a single subject or area. This can include many different fields of study from accounting to business management.

Upon completion of a Matric Equivalent Certificate, you will be able to step directly into a career within the specific field of your certification. This is different from a regular matric certificate as you will learn skills and gain knowledge in certain areas that fall outside of a traditional matric certificate. You will thus have different career options available to you.

Bellview Institute of Distance Learning gives you a number of different courses that you can study without a matric certificate. These include:

  • Skill Based Courses
  • Accredited Courses
  • Scarce Skill Courses

A Skill-based course is a great choice for students who wish to improve either their CV or their knowledge in a certain subject/field. Skill-based courses are very well suited to students who are looking at skill-stacking.

These courses include:

Studying an Accredited Course can assist you in becoming career-ready for a certain profession. Employers highly regard these courses and thus they boost your employability.

National Qualification (NATED) Courses

The National Qualification Courses otherwise known as NATED courses have been designed by the Department of Higher Education and Training to provide students with both practical and theoretical experience.

Most NATED courses can be started with a matric equivalent certificate, but some of them can only be applied for with a matric certificate.

If you pass your matric rewrite on a Bachelor’s Degree level, you can indeed apply for a university course.

It is, however, important to note that you will have to meet all of the university requirements (some of which this pass level on its own may not include). This could include having specific subjects, passing with high marks, or other pass requirements that are specific to each course.

The Matric Rewrite covers the contents of your chosen subjects from grade 10 until matric. This means that you will learn everything covered during those three years.

When Rewriting Matric, you can choose to redo all of your subjects or choose the subjects that need an improved mark. You do not need to choose the same subjects you had during your original matric year.

You can choose other subjects that will ensure good marks or select those you need to further your studies with.

The minimum pass requirements for matric are as follows:

  • Home Language: 40%
  • Two other subjects: 40%
  • Three other subjects: 30%

Note that you can fail one of your subjects, but you MUST get over 30% for the rest of your subjects in order to pass.

You can rewrite matric in a period of 12, 24, or 36 months. It is recommended to complete the course within 12 to 24 months.
