Registration is open throughout the year at our institution to start your studies towards your Matric Rewrite.
The closing dates to register for the Matric rewrite examinations are the following:
- 8 February 2024 for the May/June 2024 exams
- 15 March 2024 for the October/November 2024 exams
What Is A Matric Rewrite?
A Matric Rewrite is your second chance to write your Matric exams and get better results. You must have previously taken your Matric exams, but did not receive the grades you desired or did not pass certain subjects because you could not meet the pass requirements or missed the examination.
You do not need to redo your entire Matric year. Not only that, but you only need to study for the subjects you want to rewrite, and then when the examination dates arrive, you will need to write your Matric examinations at a specified exam venue closest to you.
What Are The Requirements For A Matric Rewrite?
The requirements for doing a Matric Rewrite are the following:
- Must have already written your Matric exams before
- Have your statement of results
How Many Subjects Can You Rewrite?
You can rewrite up to four (4) subjects when you enrol in the Matric Rewrite programme.
If you are still under the age of 21, you can re-enrol in high school if you are unable to pass your Matric exams after rewriting up to four (4) subjects. You can apply for the Amended Senior Certificate (SC) course with your grade 9 school report if you are 21 or older.
How Many Times Can You Rewrite Matric?
Matric exams can be written as many times as you want as long as you are younger than 21. This means that you can rewrite your Matric exams as many times as you want until then. If you are 21 years old or older, you can apply for the Matric Upgrade programme to redo subjects if you want to improve your grades in.
Is Matric Rewrite The Same As Supplementary Exams?
Yes, Matric Rewrite and Supplementary Exams are two (2) terms that are used interchangeably and have the same meaning. They both refer to a student who is rewriting their Matric examinations because they did not pass, missed an exam, or want to improve their grades.
How Long Does A Matric Rewrite Take?
If you choose the earliest date to rewrite your Matric after you have finished your initial exams, which are in May/ June, you will be able to finish your Matric Rewrite in six (6) months.
But you can choose how long you want to study before you write your Matric exams again. It can even take between 12 and 24 months.
Can I Rewrite Matric With Different Subjects?
No, you cannot change the subjects you will be writing for your Matric Rewrite. You can only rewrite the subjects you have already written in your final Matric examination.
If you want to rewrite other subjects or add more subjects to your Matric certificate, you can apply for a Matric Upgrade.
What Is The Deadline To Register For The Matric Rewrite 2023?
The deadline to register for the Matric Rewrite exams is the 8th of February 2024 to rewrite your exams in May/ June 2024.
However, there is no deadline to register for the Matric Rewrite 2024 through Bellview Institute of Distance Learning. You can contact us at any time to register for the Matric Rewrite registration 2024 and start studying until you need to register for the examinations.
What Is Needed To Register For Matric Rewrite?
When you register for the Matric Rewrite programme at Bellview Institute of Distance Learning, you will need to have the following documentation at hand:
- Your final Matric examination results
- A certified copy of your identification document (ID)

Can I Go To University With A Matric Rewrite?
Yes, you can go to university with a Matric certificate you have obtained through a Matric Rewrite. It is equal to an NQF Level 4 and is equivalent to a Matric certificate from a high school.
However, a Matric certificate alone will not determine if you qualify for university entrance. Some other factors that will determine whether you will gain entrance are:
- Your APS score
- The subjects you took
- Whether you have a bachelor’s pass

You can rewrite your Matric for free through the Department of Basic Education (DBE). But it is important to keep in mind that you will receive no extra individual assistance to help you prepare for your examinations. You will need to study on your own and find your own resources.
