What is the QCTO Responsible For?

The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) is responsible for the standards and qualifications for trades and occupations. Furthermore, they issue certificates to people who have studied and earned their qualifications.

Other things they are responsible for include:

  • Establishment and management of the Occupational Qualification Sub-framework (OQSF).
  • Occupational qualifications development and maintenance.
  • Accreditation of Skills Development Providers.
  • Accreditation of assessment venues.
  • Assessments.
  • Certifications.
  • Research and knowledge development.
  • Stakeholder management and advocacy.

Role

To sum up, their role is to direct the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF). In terms of the design, implementation, assessment, and certification of occupational qualifications.
In addition, the QCTO offers guidance to skills development providers who need accreditation to offer job-related qualifications.

What Does Being Accredited By The QCTO Mean?

The QCTO is responsible for the accreditation of Skills Development Providers (SDPs). Therefore, allows them to offer programmes and qualifications that form part of the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF).

The programmes and qualifications include:

  • Occupational qualifications.
  • Old trades.
  • N4-N6 NATED courses.

Generally, the Occupational Qualifications and NATED Course Programmes’ accreditation need to apply directly with the QCTO. Whereas, the National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB) will handle the accreditation of Old Trades on behalf of the QCTO.
