What is a Reading & Writing Learner

A reading and writing learner uses a fairly traditional way of learning and retaining information. Somewhat overlapping with the visual learning style, these learners absorb the most information through reading and writing text.

Characteristics of a Reading & Writing Learner

R&W learners have strong preferences in regards to the way they learn best. Here are a few of the most common traits of a R&W learner:

  • Usually enjoys reading in their spare time
  • Articulates themselves better when writing than talking
  • Works best in a quiet environment
  • Prefers studying on their own
office equipment and excel as a reading and writing learner with bellview institute

Excel within this Learning Style

As a R&W learner, you make use of the most conventional, school taught study method. Here are a few study strategies designed for the read & writer learner, so that you can get the most out of your learning style:

Utilize note taking

Writing and paraphrasing notes is the most beneficial way for a  R&W learner to memorize information. Take your note taking skills up a notch by making use of colour coding and writing key concepts out in lists.

Keep notes organized

You are dependent on your notes! So make sure that they are always well organized. Do not lose any handouts or worksheets, you never know when they might come in handy!

Translate visual/audio into writing

Because you are most receptive to the written word, try translating audio and those pesky graphs and charts into writing that you understand.

Refer back to textbook

Dedicate time to reading supplementary information on whatever it is you’re learning about in class. This will expand your knowledge as well as your overall understanding of the work material.

Benefits of this Learning Style

This is the most commonly used learning method and not without good reason! The read & write learning style comes with its fair share of benefits.

Be Independent

You rely on your own notes and the way you structure information. This makes you an extremely independent learner! You do not require external information in forms of audio or visuals to study effectively.

Traditional Learning

Most Institutions use the traditional way of learning where a professor dictates and the students take down notes. This is exactly what you perform well with!  Your ability to retain information by reading and writing puts you at a great advantage.

Broader Vocabulary

This learning style is all about reading and this of course broadens your vocabulary! Because you have such a vast range of words in your back pocket, this improves your ability to converse.
