The Senior Certificate is an award obtained by completing High School. They are generally referred to as Matric Certificates.

There are a total of three types of Senior Certificates:

Available Senior Certificates

National Senior Certificate (NSC)

The National Senior Certificate is awarded to students who have finished their final year of high school (matric) and passed their exams. The final mark that will determine if you pass or not is calculated by combining the results of in-class tests, assignments as well as your final matric exams.

Details Of Getting A National Senior Certificate

Here are the requirements and details of the National Senior Certificate:

  • You can rewrite your matric before you turn 21
  • You cannot add any other subjects to your choice
  • NQF level 04
  • You can go to university depending on your final marks and subject choices (as well as meeting additional university requirements)

Amended Senior Certificate (Adult Matric)

People who successfully complete the Adult Matric programme will be given an Amended Senior Certificate. There are no class tests or assignments that count towards your pass marks. Your final matric examination is the only thing that will determine your mark.

Tips For Passing Adult Matric

You can use these helpful tips to pass your Adult Matric:

  • Use past papers
  • Create a timetable
  • Ask for help
  • Interact with fellow students
  • Take notes

Use Past Papers

By looking at past matric exam papers, you can determine the types of questions asked as well as see which topics they focus on. By practicing past matric papers, you will find it easier to answer the questions.

Create A Timetable

Although Distance Learning courses allow you to have a flexible study schedule, it is still important to make sure that you get through all of your study materials. Make sure that you take your time with your study materials so that you do not have to cram all of your work right before you write.

Ask For Help

Your tutors are there to help you to understand the study material you are struggling with. If you do not understand some parts of your course material, do not hesitate to ask for assistance.

Interact With Fellow Students

Studying in groups (physically or virtually) will motivate you to study. Sometimes having someone explain the course work in their own words can help you to understand the work better. These groups also help you to find extra resources that explain your course work easier.

Take Notes

When you contact your tutors or speak to fellow students, it is good to make notes for you to go back to. This simply solidifies your understanding of the work and makes revision easier.
