What Are The Business Management Course Subjects?

Our NATED Business Management National Diploma course subjects are designed to give you the information you will need to go out and dominate the business world.

The NATED Business Management course consists of four (4) courses. The N4 – N6 National Certificates which are theoretical courses and the N6 National Diploma course which is a practical course. The theoretical courses have four (4) subjects each, these subjects are designed to give you all the information you will need to be a successful Business Manager.

What Are The NATED Business Management Course Subjects?

As a result of the subjects covered in this course, you will develop the knowledge you need to succeed in the world of business.


Business Management: NATED N4 National Certificate

These subjects are covered in the N4 National Certificate course:

  • Management Communication N4
  • Introductory Accounting N4 
  • Entrepreneurship and Business Management N4 
  • Computer Practice N4


Business Management: NATED N5 National Certificate

The following subjects are covered in this course:

  • Entrepreneurship and Business Management N5 
  • Sales Management N5 
  • Public Relations N5 
  • Computer Practice N5


Business Management: NATED N6 National Certificate

These are the subjects you will cover in this course:

  • Entrepreneurship and Business Management N6 
  • Sales Management N6 
  • Cost and Management Accounting N6 
  • Computer Practice N6


What Will I Learn?

The subjects covered in this course often get carried over into the next course. For example, subjects introduced in the N4 National Certificate Course can be carried over into the N5 National Certificate Course. The subjects will build on each other to make sure you receive all the relevant information and training. 


Management Communication

This subject is only done in the first theoretical course, you will learn the importance of communication in the workplace. You will learn how effective communication can benefit your office team and help build stronger relationships.  


Introductory Accounting 

The introductory accounting subject is also done in the first theoretical course. You will learn about the different fields of accounting, and you will cover the processes of:

  • Recording accounting information
  • How to analyse accounting information
  • How to classify accounting information 


Entrepreneurship And Business Management 

This subject is covered in all three theoretical courses. You will learn:

  • How to start a business
  • How to run a business
  • How to do the administration of a business
  • What it is like to manage a business


Computer Practice 

This subject is introduced in the first theoretical course, and it is carried over into the other two theoretical courses. The goal of this subject is to provide you with the skills you will need to succeed in a career in administration. 

You will learn about computer systems, how to operate them, and about the different techniques you can use and apply to solve everyday problems. 


Sales Management

Sales Management is introduced in the N5 National Certificate course, and it is carried over into the N6 National Certificate course. You will learn:

  • How to manage a sales team
  • How to forecast sales, and set goals
  • How to develop strategies for leading and increasing sales


Public Relations

This subject is only done in the N5 National Certificate course, it teaches you how to manage customer relations, media relations, investor relations, and so on to achieve positive publicity for a business.


Cost And Management Accounting

This subject will only be taught in the N6 National Certificate course, which will teach you how to recognize where a company makes money, where it spends money, and how much it makes overall.


How Do The Assignments Work?

The theoretical courses are the N4 – N6 National Certificates, each course consists of four (4) subjects. Each subject requires you to complete two (2) assignments. In total, you will be completing eight (8) assignments, and you need to pass your assignments with a mark of 50 % or more in order to qualify for the exams.


How Do The Examinations Work?

The N4 – N6 National Certificates courses each consists of four (4) subjects. For each subject, you will be required to write two (2) exams, one internal and one external. In total, you will be writing eight (8) examinations, and you need to pass the exams with a 50 % pass mark or higher.

How Does The Business Management Course Work?

The NATED Business Management programme consists of four (4) courses, N4 – N6 National Certificate and a practical course, N6 National Diploma. The N4 – N6 National Certificates are theoretical courses, consisting of four (4) subjects each. As mentioned above, you will complete eight (8) exams and eight (8) assignments for this course. You will need to pass your assignments and exams with a 50 % pass mark. 

You can then complete your N6 National Diploma course, this course requires you to complete work based training in a relevant working environment. Furthermore, you will receive a Business Management logbook which contains tasks that you will need to complete over a span of 18 months. 

Once you have completed your work based training, you will then send us your completed logbook. We will review your logbook and send it to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and once they are certain that you have successfully completed your practical training they will award you your Business Management National Diploma.

How Long Is The NATED Business Management Course?

The N4 through N6 National Certificate programmes last 6 to 12 months a course, while the N6 National Diploma programme lasts 18 months. If you decide to finish the course full-time, it will take you 36 months to do so. If you want to take the course part-time, it will take you 54 months to finish.


Is The NATED Business Management Course Accredited?

Yes, the Business Management course is accredited by the Quality Council of Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
