What Can I Do With My Matric Results?

You can study at different learning institutions depending on your Matric results. Bellview offers a number of courses you can study after completing Matric.

If you are planning to further your education, having a Matric Certificate will give you a significant advantage depending on your results. Where you plan to further your education depends heavily on what marks you have achieved, so it is important to know what your end results mean.

What Do My Results Mean?

There are four (4) main different Matric Pass levels:

  • Higher Certificate Pass
  • Senior Certificate Pass


Each of these pass levels will give you
different opportunities in terms of furthering your studies.


Bachelor’s Degree Pass Level

A Bachelor’s Degree Pass is the highest Matric pass level you can get. In order to obtain this pass, you must have the following minimum marks:

  • 40% for your Home Language
  • 50% for four (4) other High Credit Subjects
  • 30% for two (2) other subjects


What Can I Do With My Bachelor’s Degree Pass?

You will be able to apply to  any university course with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass, as long as you meet all the other entry requirements for the specific course. You can apply for any certification, including a Degree, Diploma, or Certificate.


What APS Does A Bachelor’s Degree Pass Have?

A Bachelor’s Degree Pass has a minimum Admission Point Score of 23.


Diploma Pass Level

A Diploma Pass is the second highest Matric pass level. In order to obtain this pass, you must have the following minimum marks:

  • 40% for your Home Language
  • 40% for four (4) other High Credit Subjects
  • 30% for two (2) other subjects


What Can I Do With My Diploma Pass?

With a Diploma Pass, you will be able to apply to  a  college,  university of  technology, or Diploma course programme. This will enable you to study for a Diploma or National Diploma programme.


What APS Does A Diploma Pass Have?

A Diploma Pass has a minimum Admission Point Score of 19.


Higher Certificate Pass Level

A Higher Certificate Pass is the third Matric pass level. In order to obtain this pass, you must have the following minimum marks:

  • 40% for your Home Language
  • 40% for two (2) other subjects
  • 30% for three (3) other subjects


What Can I Do With My Higher Certificate Pass?

With a Higher Certificate Pass, you will be able to apply for a Certificate programme or enrol in a college programme. 


What APS Does A Higher Certificate Pass Have?

A Higher Certificate Pass has a minimum Admission Point Score of 15.


Senior Certificate Pass Level

This pass level is the minimum requirement for passing your Matric. In order to obtain this pass, you must have the following minimum marks:

  • 40% in your Home Language
  • 40% in two (2) other subjects
  • 30% in three (3) other subjects


You can fail one subject, but you must achieve 30% or more for your other subjects.


What Can I Do With My Senior Certificate Pass?

You can use your Senior Certificate to enrol for a number of Distance Learning courses. For these courses, you simply need a Matric Certificate, no matter your pass level.


What APS Does A Senior Certificate Pass Have?

A Senior Certificate Pass has a minimum Admission Point Score of 14.

What Are My Options If I Failed Matric?

If you did not pass your Matric exams, you still have the opportunity to improve your marks and get your Matric Certificate. Your options include:


Matric Upgrade: Amended Senior Certificate

If you did not pass your Matric or were unable to get the marks you need, you can complete a Matric Upgrade course. Your previous Matric results will be combined with your new results to create a single certificate that reflects your best marks.


Matric Rewrite: Amended Senior Certificate

Rewriting your Matric will allow you to improve your marks so that you gain your Matric pass or achieve better results. You will be able to get the marks you need to further your studies.

How Can I Get My Matric Certificate If I Never Wrote Matric?

If you did not have the chance to write your Matric, you still have the chance to obtain your Matric Certificate. You can get your Matric Certificate by completing the Adult Matric: Amended Senior Certificate course programme. You can start this course no matter how long you have been out of school.


What Do I Need To Apply For Adult Matric?

In order to apply for an Adult Matric course, you will need:

  • A grade 9 school report or a grade 9 equivalent qualification
  • An incomplete Matric result
  • To be at least 21 years old when writing your exams


Is An Adult Matric Qualification On The Same Level As An NSC?

Yes, the Adult Matric programme will award you with an Amended Senior Certificate. This qualification is on the same level as a National Senior Certificate (NQF level 04). An Amended Senior Certificate is regarded exactly the same as a National Senior Certificate by employers and tertiary learning institutions.


Can I Go To University With An Amended Senior Certificate?

Yes, the Amended Senior Certificate is regarded as one of the entry requirements for a university course. You simply need to make sure that you adhere to all the other requirements for the specific course you wish to study.


Can I Complete My Adult Matric Online?

Your Adult Matric course will be completed online. All of your studies and assignments can be done from home, you only need to write your final examination at an allocated DHET exam venue.


How Long Does The Adult Matric Programme Take?

You can complete your Adult Matric course in a period of 12, 24, or 36 months. This depends on how fast you are able to work through your course materials. A 12 to 24-month period is recommended.
